Weather Related Disruptions

  • Australia | 11 Nov
    Severe weather affects postal service: Australia Post reported on November 11 that bushfires in New South Wales have been impacting the collection and delivery of all mail products in the postcode areas 2424, 2427, 2428, 2429, 2430, 2443, 2446 as well as postal flows in and out of Australia.
  • Great Britain | 14 Nov
    Flooding affects ground transportation: On November 18, media sources indicated that flooding has been impacting road traffic in parts of Central England since November 14. More rainfall was expected in the coming days, possibly exacerbating conditions.
  • Philippines | 19 Nov
    Tropical storm to hit northern Philippines: Media sources reported on November 18 that Tropical Storm Kalmaegi is forecast to make a landfall in the northern Philippines on the afternoon of November 19. Disruptions, including flooding and landslides, due to the approaching storm were already being reported across the Bicol Region as well as Albay and Camarines Sur provinces.

  • Japan | Oct - 19 Nov
    Backlog at Narita Airport cleared: Japan Post indicates on November 19 that the backlog at Narita International Airport has been cleared, and that inbound airmail handling is now back to normal. Previously, air mail going through Narita International Airport in Tokyo had been severely delayed since October 2019 due to increasing inbound volumes and congestion.
  • Chile | 20 Oct - 18 Nov
    Postal services normalize following protests: On November 19, CorreosChile reports that all postal services have resumed on November 18 after they had experienced delays in the processing and delivery of inbound and outbound postal items since October 20 due to the social and political unrest in Chile.
  • Hong Kong | 8 Nov
    Protests disrupt postal operations: On November 8, Hongkong Post indicated that it has been experiencing disruption to postal operations due to the ongoing unrest in Hong Kong, with the processing and delivery of all inbound, outbound and local mail having been severely disrupted since November 8.
  • Slovenia | 11 - 13 Nov
    Postal workers end strike: On November 13, postal workers at Posta Slovenije ended a two-day strike action after reaching an agreement with management on November 12. The strike reportedly disrupted postal services throughout Slovenia. 
  • Finland | 11 Nov - 8 Dec
    Postal workers extend strike action: On November 11, media sources indicated that workers with Finnish postal company Posti Ltd would extend their strike action until December 8. Prior to the strike extension, an embargo for inbound and outbound airmail had been declared. Postal delays should be expected throughout the duration of the strike. 
  • Israel | 12 - 18 Nov
    Postal services resume: The Israel Postal Company reported on November 18 that all postal services have normalized after the distribution and collection of mail had been disrupted in the south and centre of Israel due to the regional security situation since November 12.
  • Lebanon | 12 - 15 Nov
    Postal operations return to normal: On November 18, the LibanPost indicated that all postal operations returned to normal on November 15 after being disrupted since November 13 due to the evening protests across various cities in Lebanon.                                      
  • Colombia | 21 Nov
    Airport personnel to join nationwide strike: On November 14, Media sources indicated that the Civil Aviation Workers Union will join a nationwide strike in Colombia on November 21. At least half of the union’s 3,000 members, including air traffic personnel, technicians, aeronautical information and administrative personnel, are expected to participate in the strike, beginning with a rally between 06:00 and 10:00 local time. Disruptions to air traffic should be expected throughout the day if the strike goes ahead.
