ROAD FREIGHT SURCHARGES

Check the Latest Surcharges

Changes in fuel prices have resulted in increased overall costs for the transport industry, necessitating the introduction of a variable fuel surcharge which may rise, fall or be removed to align with movements in fuel prices.

  • The change in fuel surcharge calculation is being put in place to recognise the impact of UK Duty charges being applied that are out with the standard bulk price model previously utilised. The new model also recognises that the cost profile of the Freight service differs from our Express parcels services, hence the fuel surcharge applied to the two services are likely to be different in the future.

The products impacted by this are Domestic and Euroconnect. The flexible surcharge will be implemented in accordance with the table below. This means DHL will continue to adjust the surcharge in line with future movements in fuel prices.

The surcharge will be linked to the FTA published average bulk fuel price for the last week of the preceding month.

  • Over the last few months, you may have noticed a number of changes in the financial markets including the weakening of the Sterling Pound (£) against the Euro (€).

Due to the nature of our business, the majority of our costs, to move freight into Europe and deliver, are incurred and paid in euros. Until now the impact of the exchange movement has been absorbed by DHL Freight. However due to the increasing movement of the Exchange Rate between the two currencies, I am sure you will understand that it is no longer viable for DHL Freight to continue to do this.

Therefore after great consideration, DHL Freight have no alternative but to apply a currency surcharge, to all sterling-paid shipments to Europe, until further notice.

The currency surcharge will be calculated each month based on the FT.com Exchange Rate between the sterling pound (£) and the Euro (€). The rate will be taken on the 2nd last Friday of the previous month. The surcharge will be shown as a separate item on your invoice.

Details of the surcharge will be updated each month on this site. Please regularly check this website for any updates or changes.
