ABB FIA FORMULA E CHAMPIONSHIP

Electrifying City Center Racing

Urban, electric, pioneering: Formula E is pushing the boundaries of motorsports. Since the inaugural race in 2014, the world’s first all-electric Formula racing series has been proving that motorsports is a perfect platform for promoting sustainable solutions. 22 top drivers are competing in exciting races on attractive street circuits in emission-free Formula racing cars. In 2018/2019, its fifth season, Formula E is bringing thirte13 races to 12 cities across five continents, from Mexico City to Hong Kong and from Rome to New York. It has truly evolved from a motorsport startup to an established racing series. Thrilling millions of fans, no other motorsport series currently has as many car manufacturers actively involved as Formula E. As a Founding Member and the global Logistics Partner, DHL has been has been helping make Formula E a reality and, as such, is responsible for handling the logistics requirements of Formula E organizers and teams. 2019 is an anniversary year for both partners: in March, Formula E celebrated the 50th race in its history, and in 2019, DHL is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

What unites DHL and Formula E, in particular, is a shared pursuit of innovation and sustainability. Formula E is not only a highly exciting motorsports event, it is also a test environment for electromobility solutions. The current season sees the second generation of racing cars being used for the first time. With the power to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 280km/h, they are the fastest in Formula E history. The more powerful batteries also eliminate the previous need to change cars during the race. With its emission-free and quieter cars, Formula E is also the only motorsport championship in the world where the races are held predominantly on street circuits. Thanks to its urbanity and future-oriented profile, it is helping to get new target groups interested in motorsports, while at the same time promoting electric-mobility.

Future solutions are also playing an important role in enabling DHL to achieve its own environmental goals, which the company formulated in 2017 under its Mission 2050 strategy: Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to reduce its own logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. The StreetScooter, a self-developed electric delivery vehicle, is just one of many innovative projects with which Deutsche Post DHL Group is making logistics greener.
